noun · the thing you depend onIn a network, a node is any single point that other points rely on - a server, a database, a router in a rack somebody stopped labelling in 2017. On a diagram it is a dot. In practice it is the thing that, when it stops, teaches you exactly who was depending on it.

noun · the part nobody photographsOperations: the patch on a Tuesday night, the restore rehearsed before it is needed, the certificate renewed a week early, the alert tuned until it means something. It wins no awards and it makes no headlines. It is also the only reason anything stays up.
We named the company after the two things we actually do: we look after the nodes, and we do the ops. Security came third in the sentence and first in the job description - because in our experience it is not a product you bolt on afterwards. It is simply what good operations look like when somebody is paying attention.
The Security in our name is there for the same reason a lock is on a door you already close: to make the intention explicit.
Our primary activity is technical: security audits, Linux and Windows server infrastructure, database optimisation and general DevOps support. Our secondary activity is advisory - risk management, corporate security policy and business continuity planning for the same client base.
They are deliberately not separate businesses. The strategic advice is written by people who will have to live with it at the command line, and the technical work is done by people who understand what the business is actually trying to protect.
A security consultancy asks for a lot of trust very early. These are the things we hold to in order to deserve it.
We ask for the minimum access the work requires, tied to named accounts and time-boxed to the engagement. If you would rather we worked inside your own jump host or PAM tooling, that is the better answer and we will use it.
Every engagement leaves behind written configuration, runbooks and decisions - in your repositories, not ours. A consultancy that makes itself impossible to replace is a risk, not a partner.
Automated tooling is where we start, never where we finish. Findings are reproduced by hand before they reach a report, because a false positive costs your team more time than the real issue would have.
We do not resell hardware, licences or platforms, and we take no commission from anyone. That means when we recommend a tool, the only reason is that it fits your problem.
Reports come in two halves: technical detail your engineers can act on, and a summary a director can make a budget decision from. We will not hide a weak recommendation behind jargon.
If something is outside what we do well, we say so and point you somewhere better. Taking work we are the wrong fit for is how both sides end up disappointed.
